Initial Ideas - Julien Mauve

Julien Mauve is a narrative photographer dealing with human interactions and conditions. Loneliness, nostalgia and the rise of technology and recurring themes are key themes recurring through different projects. He has been rewarded different prices including the SFR Jeunes Talents in 2013. His work was also exhibited in the Somerset House during the Sony World Photography Awards in London and is a Song Global Imaging Ambassador. His 'Back to Childhood' project aimed to generate nostalgia and to explore how childlike objects would fit into an adult world. 

I have taken inspiration from Julien Mauve as her photos are seen to capture a sense of nostalgia about childhood and suggest a want to be as free to change and to grow not to be stuck in a role within society. Mauve's images are also very composed and lit which adds to the effect as the childhood objects stand out just enough to make an effect yet they also blend in.

This photograph is effective as it shows an every day situation yet the use of studio lighting makes it look more dramatic and therefore exciting. The toy phone seems to be the focus of the photograph which signifies the importance of it as a memory. 

This photograph is effective as Mauve used a high depth of field showing that the whole photograph is of importance. The positioning of the ballerina is interesting as to the audience, she seems oblivious of the twister game below her. It could be inferred that her inspiration for dance came from the game of twister within her childhood.

This photo is interesting as the women is looking directly at the camera which makes her look more childlike as she looks guilty. 

This set of photographs are effective as they put objects from many western childhood's into the adult world, for example a woman working in an office but using a toy phone. The photographs are composed so that the objects are noticeable yet also blend in well.

I like the recreation of this photo as I think the lighting and editing are effective in making the photograph look cinematic and professional. The model is looking above and behind the camera making her look guilty but in a childlike way. 

This photograph is effective as the model becomes the main focus due to the backlighting from the sun and the background being blurred. I used a low depth of field but then added a gaussian blur on photoshop to enhance the effect.

This photograph was not as effective as I wanted it to be as a had a lack of space and therefore the photograph became very cluttered. If I were to recreate this photograph again, I would do it in a more spacious area.
